State Grid and Southern Grid Announce: Investing 650 billion to Promote 100% Consumption of Distributed Photovoltaic Power Generation

Recently, to promote the upgrading and transformation of rural power grids, the State Grid Corporation of China (referred to as "State Grid") and the Southern Power Grid Company (referred to as "Southern Grid") have signed rural power grid transformation agreements with five provinces, with a total investment of RMB 652.2 billion. This will directly benefit photovoltaic poverty alleviation and distributed photovoltaic development.
Recently, to promote the upgrading and transformation of rural power grids, the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) and the China Southern Power Grid (CSG) have signed rural power grid transformation agreements with five provinces, with a total investment of 652.2 billion RMB. This will directly benefit photovoltaic poverty alleviation and distributed photovoltaic development.
It is reported that China carried out two rural power grid upgrades in 1998 and 2010, and this is the third round of upgrades.
Old and insufficient power grid equipment directly affects the feasibility of grid connection for photovoltaic systems and is not conducive to the development of a reliable power transmission network. The National Development and Reform Commission of China pointed out that during the 13th Five-Year Plan period before 2020, it is necessary to promote the upgrading and transformation of rural power grids in key national poverty-stricken counties, particularly impoverished areas, and revolutionary old areas. This rural power grid transformation agreement will focus on simplifying the procedures for power grid transformation to accelerate the progress of the transformation.
To this end, the SGCC has signed rural power grid transformation agreements with Shanxi, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Anhui, and Inner Mongolia; the CSG has also reached similar agreements with five southern provinces and regions. The funds invested by the two companies in rural power grid transformation will exceed 652.2 billion RMB, higher than the previous two power grid transformations. The upgraded power grid will significantly improve rural power transmission voltage and enhance the reliability and power transmission capacity of rural power grids.
At the same time, in line with the national photovoltaic poverty alleviation measures, CSG aims to achieve 100% grid connection of new energy and 100% power coverage of impoverished villages by 2020. Under the guidance of China's policies in recent years to actively promote distributed photovoltaics and photovoltaic poverty alleviation, the rural power grid transformation will help these new types of energy to Enter rural areas. On the one hand, it will stimulate farmers' willingness to adopt solar energy systems, and on the other hand, it will also drive the demand for distributed photovoltaic systems.
