In the first quarter of 2017, China's photovoltaic power generation maintained rapid growth, with new installations reaching 7.21 million kilowatts, basically the same as the same period in 2016. Among them, new installations of centralized photovoltaic power plants reached 4.78 million kilowatts, a year-on-year decrease of 23%; distributed photovoltaic power generation added 2.43 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 151%. New installations showed a trend of slowing down in centralized photovoltaic power plants and accelerating in distributed photovoltaic power generation. The cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation nationwide reached 84.63 million kilowatts, of which centralized photovoltaic power plants accounted for 71.88 million kilowatts, and distributed photovoltaic power generation accounted for 12.75 million kilowatts.
In the first quarter of 2017, national photovoltaic power generation maintained rapid growth, with newly installed capacity reaching 7.21 million kilowatts, basically the same as the same period in 2016. Among them, newly installed capacity of centralized PV power stations reached 4.78 million kilowatts, a year-on-year decrease of 23%; newly installed capacity of distributed PV reached 2.43 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 151%. Newly installed capacity showed a trend of slowing down in centralized PV power stations and accelerating in distributed PV power generation. The cumulative installed capacity of national PV power generation reached 84.63 million kilowatts, including 71.88 million kilowatts of centralized PV power generation and 12.75 million kilowatts of distributed PV power generation.
In the first quarter, PV power generation was 21.4 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 80% year-on-year. About 2.3 billion kilowatt-hours of PV power generation was curtailed nationwide. The curtailment rates in Ningxia and Gansu decreased significantly, to 10% and 19% respectively, down about 10 and 20 percentage points respectively compared with the same period last year; the curtailment rates in Qinghai, Shaanxi, and Inner Mongolia increased slightly, to 9%, 11%, and 8% respectively; the curtailment rate in Xinjiang (including the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps) remained as high as 39%.
From the perspective of PV power generation capacity distribution, the central and eastern regions have become the main growth areas in the country, with newly installed capacity of 6.39 million kilowatts, accounting for 89% of the national newly installed capacity. The development of distributed PV power generation capacity continued to accelerate, mainly concentrated in Zhejiang, Shandong, Anhui, and Jiangsu provinces.
